FXUS62 KFFC 210754 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 354 AM EDT Sun Jun 21 2026 ...Morning Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Scattered showers and storms around this afternoon and evening from the I-20 corridor south through Central GA. A few storms may be strong with gusty winds. - Localized flash flooding and a few severe storms will be possible across North GA on Monday afternoon and evening. - Warm and humid conditions with daily chances for showers and storms will continue through most of the upcoming week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Monday) Issued at 210 AM EDT Sun Jun 21 2026 Low clouds and patchy fog have developed across much of North and Central GA early this morning, indicative of the warm and humid airmass that has filled in behind a frontal boundary exiting the area to the northeast. The low clouds and fog will slowly clear out this morning, with daytime heating bringing temperatures into the upper 80s to low 90s this afternoon. High dewpoints will create 'feels-like' temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. Subtle mid-level ridging will try to keep a lid on convection, but isolated to scattered showers and storms will still break through during the afternoon and evening, primarily along and south of the I-20 corridor. A few storms could be strong, with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. Tonight into Monday, there will be an uptick in warm air advection as low to mid-level southwest flow strengthens in response to a system moving across the Midwest into the Ohio Valley. We could see another round of low clouds in the early morning, as well as some areas of light rain. Daytime heating and increasingly breezy southwest winds will scatter out the low clouds by mid to late morning, allowing temperatures to climb into the upper 80s to low 90s by the afternoon. With dewpoints a little higher, in the low to mid 70s, heat index values will peak in the upper 90s in north GA, and low 100s in central GA. By mid to late afternoon, scattered showers and storms will develop across North GA, with the potential for a strong to severe line of storms moving in during the evening hours as a frontal boundary moves in from the north. The primary concerns would be damaging wind gusts, as well as localized flash flooding if the high rain rate showers and storms repeatedly over an area. This potential line of storms would likely weaken and fall apart as it moved south into central GA overnight due to weaker forcing and loss of diurnal heating. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through Saturday) Issued at 210 AM EDT Sun Jun 21 2026 A moist environment with precipitable water values between 1.5 inches and 2 inches will keep daily chances for precipitation most of next week. Overall, there isn't any synoptic feature to clear the moisture out of the area. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop diurnally, generally focusing along the front that moves through North GA Monday night and stalls over Central GA for most of the week. Instability will mainly be in the 500 to 1000 J/kg range Tuesday through Thursday before building back to 2000 J/kg or higher next weekend. Highs will largely be in the 80s to 90 with lows in the 60s and 70s. Central Georgia may see heat indices around 100 on Tuesday, and then again Friday and Saturday. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 143 AM EDT Sun Jun 21 2026 VFR conditions ongoing across much of the area to start the period. IFR CIGs and patchy FG likely develop across western and southern areas (CSG and MCN), potentially reaching into the ATL area. These low CIGs would scatter and lift back to VFR conditions by 16Z, with SCT SHRA/TSRA around from 18-00Z as far north as the ATL area, and better chances at CSG and MCN. Winds generally out of the W-SW at 5-8 kts or less through the period. //ATL Confidence...06Z Update... Medium in CIGs this morning and TSRA chances this afternoon. High on other elements.
